........Happy Christmas Party .............

Today was a really nice and remarkable day for me. We prepared a puzzle activity related to some words and our friends played it. However, we had to leave even though we showed just the activity and were not able to check at the end. Sorry, we left because we didn`t buy a present for our friends in that we didn`t know that we had to bring one. Therefore, we felt a bit shy and ashamed. As a consequence of this, we just left the class in order to buy a present. After a while, we just came and enjoyed the beautiful air of the party with our friends. Our great cooks cooked duck, potatoes with sugar sauce which was completely interesting for me,a desert with rice and almonds. Apart from these, my teacher Ann Christine told that Danish people start to sing hand in hand around christmas tree and than open their presents. It seems to be a nice tradition. After we ate really delicious meals, we just sat down and we threw the dices and when it came 6, it meant you could choose a present and I threw 6 and I had a present. I was happy. However, I learnt that presents changed with the cards. Anna read a paper according to which we changed our presents and our places. Yet, I again loved my lovely present, which I will keep with myself for a long time unless of course if they don`t get broken. All in all, I can say that I enjoyed myself and it was really nice to feel that great weather with friends. And now I am getting ready to leave for Turkey. It was a nice term, I finished my study products and now time to get relaxed and feel the soul of Gud Jule:).

(x+y+z=?): What is the result and How to do evaluation???

Today was a different day for me. You may ask why. Actually, it is because I had an exam. Yes, I already did my study product in Pedagogy and today I had oral exam. Except from Peter, there was another teacher. They asked some questions and I talked ralated to my study product. Before I entered in the room, I was a bit excited which is really normal to emerge, but I was able to control my excitement and I tried to answer what was asked to me. Actually, it was a really good environment in that you don`t get nervous really much. In my country, I can say that we had presentations in pertinent to our products. We explain all the topic in our work and teacher doesn`t explain our mark immediately after the presentation. It is declared after the term finishes in the site which helps us as students to see our notes. However, I really would like to say that after I talked, Peter and the other teacher gave feedback, which is actually really useful in that I became aware of what points were done related to my work and how I would improve myself. In addition to this, I found evaluation in Denmark really great in that we again discussed something and behaved critically in contrast to Turkey. In oral exams of Turkey, we have presentations, but discussion point is a bit missing. The point I like here is that teachers and student discuss and also add new points. I wasn`t just talking in front of blackboard by talking about topic. I was discussing the topic with teachers, which is quite important for me in that I can also think critically. Creating individuals who think critically is a part of Turkish curriculum and I am happy to see my improvement in this dimension.Yes, I hope I can really be a good teacher in every aspects and skills, and also help my students to comprehend the idea of thinking creatively and critically for being successful instead of just memorizing and telling what is written.

''The first snow in Denmark''

Yes, at last the grandmother `Rapunzel Snow', who had long white hair covering the all earth, came to visit her grandchildren in Vordingborg. I would like to welcome her by saying that I`m really glad to see her because I feel extremely blissful in that she persuades me to believe in quiteness, peace, and sincerity of life. Yes, when I saw the snow, I couldn`t believe in my eyes because a lot of time has passed since I saw snow. Actually, I used to see snow when I was in Adiyaman, the city I live in, but I couldn`t see it when I started to study in Mersin because of the climate. Generally, I am fond of snow and I like to play snowball with the people I love. Nonetheless, I would like to confess that experiencing snow is a completely different evident in Denmark. When it was snowing, I and my housemates went outside and we started to play snowball and ran like little cheerful children in the snow. In addition to this, we heard the music sound and decided to follow cars and people in the street. Firstly, I couldn`t understand why there were lots of people in the street and I was totally amazed to see there were a great numbers of people in Vordingborg streets which was unusual. People came with their babies and small children. Children sitting in the firefighters` cars threw candies to the people in the streets. They were opening the lights on the trees. Santa Claus was also talking, and a woman looked at me and smiled even though I couldn`t understand what they were talking about, I was just happy when I realized that people were fond of the snow and children were sliding in a crazy way. After the celebrationn finished, my friends and I just ran and played snowball with excitement and happiness in our hearts. Moroever, I wanna say that my heart got really warm upon seeing how elated and candid people were despite the fact that it was extremely cold outside. I really would like to thank to grandmother Rapunzel Snow in that she makes me be thoughtful about homeless people to be cared and makes people bind each other more by creating a feeling of humanity and a soul of Christmas.

...............The Day of Teachers .........................

Today is 24th of December which is a special day for teachers. In Turkey, we as students generally buy presents for our teachers.Even for just one day, we would like to celebrate this day in order to show that we respect to our teachers and they deserve being respected. In my country, being a teacher is a very important job in that teachers are stated to be the people who change the posterity. In addition to this, the Cabinet in Turkey gave the title of fundamental teacher to Ataturk in Ankara`s meeting which was held in 11th of November in 1928. 24th of December is celebrated as teachers day since 1981 which is Ataturk`s birthday. Today I also celebrated one of my teacher`s day in high school by sending a message because I really respect my teacher in high school. Actually, I can call him as a lifesaver. My city is a small city and its library doesn`t include any English book. In other words, I can say we don`t have English sources; however, my teacher used to give course when I was a high school kid studying for the biggest and the most important exam called OSS. He went to Adana ,the distance of which takes 6 hours from my city and collected lots of books for us. Thanks to him, we were able to pass the exam in our first year. I am thankful to him in that he is a great teacher and inspirator for his students. I really would like to be a good teacher as he is. He not only encourages you but also shows how to catch a fish. We also celebrated the day of my teachers who are in Mersin, and now I, as a teacher candidate, really would like to celebrate the teacher day of my teachers in Denmark. Happy new Teachers Day, dear Dorthe, Ann Christine and Peter and I would like to state the quotation of Ataturk which is like '' Teachers! The new posterity will be your masterpieces'' .

!!!!!!!!!!!!! ......R u ready for time to Study.........!!!!!!!!!!

Nowadays, I have been dealing with my study products. I try to figure out what I should do. Our teachers Ann Christine and Peter helped us; they showed us lots of books and also some ways of finding reliable data. Also Yette, the lady in the library, is really kind in that she really wants to help us when we want to find some resources in the library. I started to write some about my topic. I just remembered the days when I was in Turkey since I used to do same type of study products. Actually it is a nice thing when you deal with something since life is too silent in Vordingborg. If you don`t feel yourself ready to start doing, it always remains in the list of the things to be done. I think actually it is also related to how you feel. I think in these days, I feel homesick since I have been experienceing some problems related to sleeping and eating; however, this doesn`t mean I am not happy being here. On the contrary, I love Denmark, my friends, and my teachers. It makes me surprised and a bit sensitive when I realize that my classmates and teachers deal with my problems sincerely. That`s to say, they are really kind and nice people and in fact, this makes me too sensitive and homesick because I feel as if I am with my family and friends and I miss them since I remember them. It is also nice to see that there are always some type of activities for us in the school in that it helps me to become a part of the groups in classroom even though I feel they are already close to me. By the way, it is getting colder and I got surprised to hear that the first snow fell in Copenhagen. In fact, I really want to see the snow before I go to Turkey despite hating cold weather. I know it is really going to be enjoyable:).

...............Teaching in Denmark ..........

Everyday I realize that I learn new things related to classroom management in both of my courses given by Anne Kristene and Peter. I am especially happy to learn different strategies, such as group discussions, class parliament discussion, and some more collobrative techniques to apply in the classroom. Actually I would like to say that one of the reasons why I wanted to come to Denmark was related to seeing its education system and being able to notice differences and similarities compared to my country. Sometimes I note down some activities which I found useful so that I can apply in my class, such as starting to draw before starting to talk about topic since it helps students to focus on better and making circles and thereby encouraging all students to participate in the course. In fact I also realized this last week with my friends and our teacher Peter. Yes, I would like to talk about my class experience related to class environment, teacher and students as a candidate teacher in pertinent to my class observation now.
First of all, I was really excited and unaware of what was waiting for me, but I really want to state the fact that in Danish classroom I saw collobrative type of learning with group discussions while in Turkish classrooms I generally realize the teacher-centered learning. It was a multicultural classroom. I really appreciated the environment in which students consisted of generally 5 students in each group. Students were all representing different worlds because all of them had different styles and different ethnicities. Students were talking in English and generally in Danish when asking questions to each other, which helps negotiation of meaning and communication as characteristics of Communicative Language teaching. The teacher applied collobrative tasks and learning by doing environment and thereby helping all the students to participate in the lesson. However in Turkey the style of sitting in the class is in rows; line after line, which makes heavy demands on teacher in terms of learning. That`s to say, teacher talks more in Turkish classes while in collobrative class both students and the teacher are active speakers like in the case of Danish class I observed rather than being passive receipters who just listen. Actually students were comfortable enough to put off their shoes which showed that their affective filter was low. This also shows why teacher is relaxed in terms of deciding what to discuss in the class because of not having a strict curriculum that inspectors in Turkey are crazy for.
As for teacher, I would like to say that she was a good type of collobrative teaching style. Actually, she gave lots of reinforcements during the lesson like `Allright, Ok, Well done, Very good job` etc. She used her voice effectively for both making herself understood and keeping authority. She gave different assignment to one of her students from the whole class in that the other students were far from her level. In fact it showed the fact that teacher considers students` psychological and physical needs.Actually the teacher sometimes used Danish when needed. That`s to say, she used L1 and then translated to L2 when giving explanations. She had an inductive way of teaching. She started to give examples and then she discussed the main topic, which is indeed the case in Oral Approach. She was really good in terms of classroom management. That`s to say, she was not too friedly with her students and put some rules in pertinent to cleaning and class like raising your hand, waiting for all the class finish the task etc. The exercises she did were on the exact level of students. All the students talked in English, which is a part of Communicative Language Teaching, but she not only gave importance to speaking but also considered writing, reading, and listenening to be important. She gave feedback to her students after they finished writing. She was actually a good type of collobrative teaching in that the activities she did showed this a lot. After the course finished, I really wondered how she did exercises and whether activities belonged to her. She told that her secret was `Collobrative Teaching` book. She effectivelly taught a grammatical topic in a circle as a way of encouraging all students become a part of the lesson.
Finally, the content was different in that the Danish education system taught culture in the course book. The grammar exercises were also different in that Turkish grammatical books don`t provide Turkish explanations in contrast to Danish books.
I look forward to using these strategies in my class in the future. I started to write down some techniques which I find useful and think be interesting and enjoyable for my students. I also want to make my class enjoyable since that day I wasn`t aware of the fact that how time passed quickly, which made the fact that really clear that the more you encourge your students to do something, the more chace you have to improve yourself.

New Milestone in Education

In the clip we watched last week, there were a lot of students, many of whom had some problems. For example, Henritte seemed to be too silent and shy. Angellica was protesting to homework which she had to do. Suleyman was a troublemaker who created lots of problems in all teachers` classes. Esmeralda was too confident. Knoumba was too protesting because she had problems related to growing up. One of the students created his own style by wearing black and feeling different from the other people. Teacher had problems related to students in the cassroom, time management, authority and discipline. Then what the problem was and exactly what went wrong with the students.
Actually there is a lot of items of information to discuss and several reasons to talk about according to Thomas Ziehe. Nowadays we have seen that in fact we are moving from a norm-regulated form of society to prefarence-oriented society. It is seperated from high culture. In other words, u don`t have to read about Shakesphere since he is important for society. Now,in other words, the young people have more chance to opt out. They are free and liberal. They have the choice of focusing on high culture or not. It depends on them. As being a part of popular culture, they have the opportunity of avoiding the content which is not pleasent for them and pose a question of why do this, which is not so strange. For example, Angellica doesn`t want to write an autobiography like Annie Frankie did, which seems to be an unstrange body of knowledge for her and therefore she called the diary Annie Frankie wrote as `before my time` because the effect of high culture decreases. In addition to this, they create their own style. That`s to say, they become a part of detraditionalisation. They do something if it rings a bell in their mind. This also explains why one of the students want to wear black and become different from the society as an individual. As a teacher, u should in fact create self distance to everyday life, otherwise they will find `the important thing `for u to become as `out of their time` . You should provoke something strange to them so that they can deal with it and u shouldn`t agree on everything they want. If you do so, students like Suleyman will create problems in your class by being troblemakers since it seems for them u are not an authorative teacher. In this case, you should have a certain styles to get their self-world. It is important to avoid being friendly to students, not get closer to everyday life, have some structures rather than be informal. This also explains why Khoumba doesn`t do anything her teacher wants her to do. She gets angrier when her teacher talks about girls` period, which is important for her.In addition in a part of movie, a black student told that he didn`t eat with his friend`s mother since it seemed to be a kind of disobedience and immorality, which also shows that a teacher should be aware of different backgrounds in the class. It is also important for a teacher to provide motivation among students. It seems important for them how they have an image in their friends` eyes, which is called self-valuation. As a teacher, u should create an environment in which students are voluntary to demonstrate a will. Otherwise, they are going to be more reserved, shy, silent and response to questions with short answers like in Henritte`s case.

To sum up, as a teacher who will not want to have problems related to classroom management you should:

  • be aware of your time schedule and plan your exercises in the class in advance,
  • do some warm-up activities before passsing the topic so that they can be ready and find the content interesting for themselves,
  • have an authority so that students respect you,
  • create an environment in terms of motivation.
  • be like a coach and guide who helps and shows how to catch a fish and teach with the aid which is called ZPD (zone of proximal development) ,
  • be aware of their pschological and physical developments, levels, interests, and different backgrounds,
  • teach them how to be respectful and kind to eachothers` rights, and
  • be tolerant and patient enough to deal with your students` problems.

..............CINDERALLA`S FAIRYTALE AS AN INTERCULTURAL SPEAKER......

Welcome to a new story. If u r ready, we can move to another story of Cinderalla in Vordingborg. Cinderalla loses her shoe and waits for the important day to come to wear magical shoes and have a different lifestyle. Altough it was silent, dark, and boring at the beginning, I realised evrything was getting more interesting and nicer. Semra and I decided to go to Copenhagen because we were too bored last week. After getting outside, we realized that there was a really sweet pumpkin in the entrance of our dormitory and I told why it was there and what it meant.

Yes, the day comes. Cinderella wears her shoes. When we were in Copenhagen, we saw a lot of pumpkins, witches in the boxes, light in the pumpkins in Tivoli. I was amazed by what I saw and told myself how nice to be in Denmark and have cultural differences. Yeah we speak English and in fact English is not just a speaking tool for me because I notice different aspects of using it. I mean I met a lot of friends. They are from diffrent cities of Denmark or different countries. I saw that school gives breakfast party free for all students in the beginning of the year and they have a national song in this Welcome Party. It is called Swing. In addition, I learnt that there was a tradition of ligthing candles in Denmark. Knowing how many people ride bicycle is really amazing and interesting compared to Turkey, which makes me happy since it is not so common to ride bicycle for a girl at least in my city. Besides this, I learnt that there were also a lot of different Korean children adopted by government. This is nice and reasonable when u think about the fact that Denmark is a multicultural government.

After that, Cinderalla becomes aware of a lot of things and now time comes for getting on the pumpkin car. There is also a story about Halloween. Let`s talk a bit about this nice and interesting event. Halloween is told to be a really old holiday which has many influences from other cultures over the centuries. From the Roman`s Pomona day, to the Celtic festival of Samhain, to the Christian holidays of All Saints and All Souls Days. In other words, Halloween includes Pomona Day`s apples, nuts, and harvest, the Festival of Samhain`s black cats, magic, evil spirits, and death, and the ghosts, skeletons, and skulls from All Saint`s Day and All Soul`s Day. People make shapes on the pumpkins, they empty what is in the pumpkins. Crops are harvested, people light fire and give this fire to the other family so taht it keeps them warm and free from evil spirits. Yeah it is a really nice story and a part of culture to be taken into consideration.

As an intercultural speaker, I can say that I am happy to use English, my magical shoe and magical stick, because I learn different dimensions of culture and meet new personalities, which also makes me happy and have different horizon in terms of lifestyle I have in Turkey. I say yeah I love doing this and therefore why not do this since people don`t approve. I will make my students aware of this when I am a teacher. I will encourage them to learn English as a magical stick to shape thier lives by going to other countries and firstly using it among themselves. Therefore, Cinderalla will leave country by reaching her aim with a HAPPY END.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Welcome to Denmark!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Before coming to Denmark, I was too excited and quite unsure about what was waiting for me. In the plane, I was just thinking about my family, my friends, and my boyfriend. I just remembered that my mum was crying because she is as emotional as I am. As soon as we arrived at the airport, I felt colder, sleepier, tired, and hungrier, and that was the point which made me feel a bit frustrated. We had to wait a lot in the airport for the train to come. In addition to this, we didn`t have any money as Danish Kroner and this meant another problem for us since we had just Euro. By the way, we met a girl whose name was Silan and came from Turkey. She was waiting for Sweeden train. When I saw her, I was too surprised because she was sleeping on the stairs in the airport. I told her why she was sleeping on the ground, and she said there was no other choice. The idea seeming strange to me at first turned out to be the best way of getting comfortable until the train came. There was another interesting thing for me. I was too thirsty and didn`t have any idea where to buy water because all the shoppings were closed. As a solution, I had to drink water from the tap which was in the restroom. Realizing what Iencountered with, I told myself that YEAH, YEAH a good and hard year is waiting for me. Ugur and Nazli checked train hours and we had to wait and look for our baggage.
Before taking the train to Vordingborg, we met a Turkish family. We talked about the prices of the clothes and cheap place to buy them, and the interesting thing was that they haven`t any idea about Vordingborg. When we were in the train, we told that we were new in the Denmark and therefore paid money in Euro. We also got surprised to see how much money we paid for the train since going from one city to another does not cost a lot compared with Denmark. When we were in the train, I thought myself that Denmark must be an industrialized country and upon seeing the sigtseeing and nature, I forgot the bad experince I had in the airport and just confessed to myself that I would be relaxed, happy, and comfortable.
Upon coming to Vordingborg station, we had to wait again for our tutors to come and take us. Before that, we talked to a woman and she helped us in terms of calling the number we wanted. We told taht Danish people were friendly and kind. After calling our tutors Martin and Trine, they came and it seemed to be an unforgettable time to meet them. They invited us to have breakfast, which was their kindness and then we all went outside in order to see where we could go for shopping, buying phone cards, and eating. It was a really tiring day since it was our first day, but we were happy due to being in a peaceful, silent, and environmentalist place. In the first day, we felt cold and told it was really freezing for us and after that Martin told ''WELCOME to DENMARK'', which were the magical words of the first day in the small wonderland.
