Yes today we had exam in Thomas and Peter`s course. It was an enjoyable one in that we again discussed our ideas. We talked a lot, yet I can say all of the things were meaningful for me in that I know I learn a lot from the things which I discuss with other people. Actually, I know I learnt a lot of items of information in the first semester, and it makes me really happy in that I can remember what I learnt. I again encountered with such an example today. That`s to say, I remembered that Summerhill school was a free school in that I also read some knowledge in the first semester. Anyway, another interesting thing for me was that last year I chose to have Democratic Citizenship course as an eclectic course in my university, yet it was imposible in spite of my decision in that my teacher told me that they removed that lesson unfortunately. I say unfortunately because I was really curious about democracy, the rights we have in the society, and actually the term ''equality'' in terms of citizens. In fact, I wanna say that u learn what diversity, understanding the others, or as the some of other people do really ''
trying to have a dominant character in the society u live'', which seems to reminded me the fact that I had to know my place in the society in order to express myself. Anyway, I am really happy and glad that I had the chance of taking this course long years after secondary school in which I had the same kind of Democracy and Citizenship Education. We had some disadvantages in terms of the school we went as also my friends stated, but we tried to do our best as a group.Yeah, we also had the feedback which was good in that it is completely different from Turkish educational system. U just have your grade as your asessment instead of feedback after the examn. Yet, I remembered my teacher Yildiz who was a pioneer for us in that she made us get used to studying with cameras and seeing them as a part of daily life. Yes, I can see the benefits of everything I just worked on, which makes me happy. Today, I have learnt that I always learn new things and learning never ends, and being aware of what I do helps me be happy.
Hi Sevim,
ReplyDeleteit seems to me that one of the main issues for turkish students coming to Denmark to study feel that they learn alot but fear that this knowledge will not be applicable once they go back.
Do you think you will be able to use your new knowledge on democracy in your own teaching profession?
Actually, I want to say that I am completely surprised and really happy to see comments on my page since I generally dont see comments on my page:))))Thank u. As for the question, I know unfortunately I dont have opportunity to use what I know even though I really want to use. That`s to say, I really want to be a both facilitator and a liberationist teacher on the condition that I dont have problems, such as losing authority in terms of classroom management. I want to be in dialogue with my students and help them discuss in groups what they think by working cooperatively with them, which is even sometimes difficult to overcome because of crowded classrooms.Unfortunately,in some aspects, it seems to be difficult to apply what I want.
